On the afternoon of October 11, the “NEU’s Centennial Celebration Lecture symposium was held in Cai Guanshen Lecture Hall, Hanqing Auditorium. Ma Hongqi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and expert of water conservancy and hydropower engineering, was invited to give a special report on Lancang River Hydropower Development and Technology Innovation for NEU teachers and students. Feng Xiating, president of NEU, presided over the lecture, with nearly 300 teachers and students as the audiences.
Academician Ma Hongqi introduced the achievements and major scientific and technological innovation in the Lancang River hydropower development as well as the future development prospects in a simple and profound way. He and his team have worked hard for more than 20 years to develop and utilize hydropower resources in the Lancang River basin in line with the principle of basin, cascade, rolling and comprehensiveness, aimed at building the Lancang River into an expo of large high-dam reservoirs in China. Focusing on the technical problems of different dam constructions and the new technology of high dam navigation, he introduced in detail the scientific and technological innovation points concerning the Lancang River hydropower development, systematically expounded the key technologies of high arch dams, high earth-rock dams and high roller compacted concrete dams, as well as the innovation and characteristics of high dam navigation construction technologies in China.
The research achievements of academician Ma Hongqi and his team have promoted the leap-forward development of the hydropower industry, ensured China's energy security, and made great contributions to the development of China's water conservancy and hydropower industry, president Feng Xiating said. The report has fully showed the profound connotation of the spirit of scientists, so NEU teachers and students should seriously learn and comprehend the spirit of the report, and study and work with more enthusiasm and higher morale in the future to facilitate NEU’s construction of a first-class university, he added.
